It’s understandable that before working with a writer, clients like to know a little about the person they’re considering hiring. Since we haven’t met, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself and let you know a little about who I am as writer, business owner, and human in general.
I asked the people who know me best for a few one-word qualities they would use to describe me, and came up with a few of my own. These are the ones that made the final cut, which I hope you find as interesting as you do informative!
1. I’m a Single Mom
The first thing to know about me is that I’m a single mom. This may seem irrelevant, as of course being a parent doesn’t qualify me as a better writer, or the writer you should hire for that matter! Let me explain.
I do pretty much everything for my family. At times this has proven tough, I won’t lie. But at some point, I decided I would have to be more organized and efficient in my approach, and this is the way I handle my business as well.
My kids motivate me to be my best self and to show them how important it is to chase their own goals and dreams, which I do with the hope that they won’t have to struggle like I once did.
2. I’m a Proofreading Nerd
This is not something I have professional experience with, but it’s always come naturally to me. I can’t read a book, blog post or article without scanning for typos or punctuation mistakes, while in the back of my mind critiquing the composition and flow.
This means anything I write will be checked, double checked, and triple checked to make sure it’s as good as it can get before sending it off to you. This will help to minimize rewrites, saving time for the more important things you need to take care of.
3. I’m Straight to the Point
I’ve always been honest, to a fault some might say. While I’m sure you expect transparency (and rightfully so), allow me to elaborate:
If there’s something you’ve asked me to do that’s above my scope of knowledge or that I’ll need extensive time to learn, I’ll be honest with you. Never to be rude, and not to talk myself out of a job. Only to save you the time and hassle of dealing with a possible extended deadline, and the headache that’s sure to follow.
That said, I’ll happily learn new skills if your time frame allows, and will do as much research as is necessary to make sure your content is as thorough as it can be. But I want our partnership to be a good fit for both of us, so if I think it won’t be, I’ll let you know.
4. I’m an Empath
I’ve been told many times over the years that I’m too sensitive. As a child this made me feel inferior to my more robustly mannered peers, but as an adult I’ve learned to embrace my sensitive nature and use it to my advantage.
Being extra sensitive, or empathic as I prefer to call it, allows me to be more aware of the needs of others. This is helpful in a variety of ways, and drives my mission to help people through my writing.
It also allows me to assess the needs of those I work with more accurately, which allows for more harmony and ease in business relationships.
5. I’m Independent
While I’m happy to work within a team, I shine the brightest when working independently. This ties back into being a single mom, but it’s also a personality trait.
For this type of work, being independent is a perfect fit. As a sole proprietor I have no team, no boss and no co-workers, which leaves me the space I need to focus on the more important tasks: writing and attending to my clients’ needs.
6. I Dream Big…
Being ambitious is a big part of who I am. When I set out to start my business, there were quite a few reasons why I couldn’t, shouldn’t, or wouldn’t do it, but I refused to let these get in my way. I try to see the bigger picture whenever possible, and aim high in whatever I do.
This benefits you as my client, as this “dreamer” mentality helps me to see potential and possibilities where they may have been less obvious at first glance. I don’t give up when I can sense there is something worth cultivating!
7. But I’m Also a Realist
Although I possess the above mentioned dreamer mentality, I’m also a realist. I won’t be caught with my head in the clouds, dreaming up impossible scenarios that obviously aren’t achievable.
This falls back on the trait of honesty that I discussed previously, but also demonstrates the simple fact of reality. I dream big and reach for high places, but my feet are firmly planted on the ground and I’m aware that some things just aren’t doable.
As my client, you can be sure that I will be realistic about the goals we set together, while at the same time willing to take things to the next level whenever possible.
8. I’m Reliable
As a single parent, I take care of what needs to be done, and I show up when I’m needed. This has helped me to be more reliable professionally as well.
When you need something from me, I’ll have it done on time and to the best of my ability. I don’t believe in putting things off to the last minute or making people wait. If I commit to something, I do it.
This gives my clients the assurance that what they need will be handled efficiently, professionally, and in a timely manner.
9. I’m a Trained Multi-Tasker
Before I became a writer I worked for over a decade in the restaurant business, which involved a LOT of multi-tasking. It also introduced me to the wide range of personalities that customers possess, and how to deal with any issues that might occur.
Serving multiple tables of customers requires a range of tasks to be done, simultaneously and with a smile!
Being in that environment for so long not only helped me to be more efficient, but also taught me how to remain calm in fast-paced, potentially stressful situations when working.
10. I’m Self-Taught in Self Help
So, why should you trust me with your content? One reason is that I am a student of life experience, and I’ve learned a lot on my journey. I’ve been helping myself for almost a decade and have learned from many sources while figuring out what Personal Growth really means to me.
From Law of Attraction to EFT, Meditation to Yoga, Spirituality to Alternative Health Therapies, I’ve absorbed a wealth of information and continue to expand my knowledge on anything that helps people help themselves. I chose Personal Growth as my niche because I wish to help others do exactly this. I know you do too, which is probably why you chose this business yourself. We already have a common goal!
Phew! So, there you have it, me in a nutshell.
Hopefully this has given you a decent idea of who I am as a writer, but if you’d like to know more, I’m open to any questions you may have.
Find out how to work with me by sending me an email or filling out the form on the contact page. If you just want to discuss some basics, that’s fine too! I look forward to connecting with you soon.
